You lot tank Anub’Rehkan in a strange way to me. We typically tank him over where he spawns, then on locus swarm, the tank drags him around the edge of the room to the entryway. I believe this is because the locus swarm is an area-targeted ability, not one centered on Anub (obviously if this is wrong, let me know).

I do wish our raids would spread out more to avoid the spikes… though (and not to encourage bad raiding techniques) the damage is very healable, even when it hits 15 people. The raid damage in the fight only really comes from the spikes, so the danger only comes when people get spiked twice in a row.

Another solid video, though! I always love your boss kill vids.

if you have decent healing and a high hp feral or dk tank, soaking the swarm is no sweat.

  3. Sgt. Sausagepants on March 25th, 2009 7:45 am

Yeah but where’s the fun in that?

  4. Eldron on March 25th, 2009 7:57 am

Yay, I’m glad to see the BRK-WWA-HGMs for raids return. I used to use the SSC ones in an old guild to help prepare people for Leo and Karathress, and having seen the Leo video, healers always made sure to throw heals on my pet! Thank you BRK!

It’s such a shame that most of the raid encounters require nothing more than standing at range and unleashing MQOSRDPS, with the occasional ’sometimes there is fire, move out of fire’ strategy. I miss the fights where having a hunter and his abilities was a real bonus, like tanking Kiggler or controlling adds on Lurker. However, there is one fight where hunters can be called an for essential duties, and that is for Chow-kiting on Gluth. I’ve run with raids where all I’m needed to do is drop frost traps, but also with raids where myself and another are expected to kite the adds back and forth.

BRK, could one of your next movies be a chow-kiting Gluth kill?

awsome movie, aunb rehkan is one of my favorite (and easiest) boss fights, very fun to do in 25man. by the way what was the recount results for your raid that night.

  6. NightStalker on March 25th, 2009 9:00 am

Id like to know what kind of bars addon BRK uses, anyone know?
My guild tank Anub in the same way they do, tank sit down and eat locust swarm while our heals keeps him up, its easyer this way cause there is no risk to locust swarm hit another raid member.

  7. Shyntaï on March 25th, 2009 9:11 am

BRK, you have a nicely configured SCT ! On my way to change mine !
BTW, a dwarf with a bow …. oh my god !

  8. joe on March 25th, 2009 9:18 am

  9. Alphakhan on March 25th, 2009 9:27 am

    @ Nightstalker

    Bartender4

    @ joe

    It looks like Serenity Square

  10. Teaakius on March 25th, 2009 9:55 am

Almost every raid I’ve been in has prefered the hunter to support whoever’s kiting with frost traps, focusing their DPS on Gluth….and instead have an OT or two, or the lower DPS’rs, do the kiting….our 4-5k dps is much better spent on Gluth then running around in circles trying to keep the Zombies off healers, which almost anyone can do.

  11. Kelektra on March 25th, 2009 10:02 am

I hear you tapping your screen while you were talking about certain mods there, brk :P

  12. WB on March 25th, 2009 10:04 am

I actually think the hunter is bettter off doing the kiting. Yeah, you lose the high quality DPS, but from a utlitiy standpoint, we’re better than most other DPS classes. First, more heath particularly if you’re SV. Second, instant shots that fire on the run. Third, traps where you need them, when you need them. Fourth, disengage to get out of a pack. Fifth, deterence, when you’re holding the adds on the wall before the decimate. Throw on some PVP gear from VoA/WG/token turn-ins/Arenas, and we’re probably second best at the kiting the Chow, behind a tanking class.

  13. WB on March 25th, 2009 10:07 am

Oh, and as a dwarf with a bow, yeah, not quite ideal, but at least he fires it in the proper upright position. Male N.Elfs fire the bow sideways, gangster style. Just annoys the crap out of me.

  14. Dave on March 25th, 2009 11:11 am

In Naxx10 or Naxx25 the easiest way to kite him is just have the tank do it. There is NO need to do any hunter tanking. The tank can just run around the edge of the room kiting the boss to the other side. Why lower the overall DPS or deal with aggro changes when you have no need to?
We started with the whole hunter kite business, and while it worked, it just didn’t seem like it was needed, so after 2 weeks of hunter kiting, we just let the MT run the boss around and it worked just as well…plus it kept my DPS in action for that entire time.
We’ve had the MT doing the kiting for months now without any issues.

  15. Gemski on March 25th, 2009 11:13 am

What are those little glowing multi colored squares above his bars?

  16. Teridom on March 25th, 2009 11:32 am

I believe BRK has another SS in an earlier entry where he said those squares in particular were raid buffs that he set up to show in Power Aura.

  17. Shootrmcgavn on March 25th, 2009 12:22 pm

frost mages make the best chow kiters, no question

  18. WB on March 25th, 2009 12:30 pm

@Dave, I think you’re talking about a different fight. The hunter kiting discussion above is for Gluth and Zombie Chow adds. The MT can’t kite Gluth around the room because he woudl eat the Chow and heal himself. As for kiting chow, yes, a tank is better for kiting chow on Gluth due to armor and much larger health pool. However, they can be hampered by not having a ranged attack that can gather a runner. We’ll typically have a tank and hunter on Chow duty with a healing shaman for the two of them and also for totem. Rest of the raid on boss. After a decimate, tank will switch out for another tank until the debufff falls off.

However, on Anub, I agree that the only thing the Hunter should be doing is crushing the boss (or the two adds when they are up.)

    Hey BRK awesome video!

I’d like to be able to record a few of my guild’s encounters as well, but most videos I’ve seen out there are rather poor quality… but yours are crystal clear. What software and system are you creating these on (as far as the WoW system, not necessarily the post-processing system)?

    ~Your friendly neighborhood hunter

  20. Nefernet on March 25th, 2009 1:45 pm

    \o/ Yeah, BRK’s raid movies !
    Thanks ! :)

  21. Trillian on March 25th, 2009 2:44 pm

BRK uses a Apple Mac to record his movies. The Mac OS X version of wow has a high quality movie recording feature built into the application.

  22. Stang on March 25th, 2009 3:42 pm

/clap. Anub’Rekhan is dead. Now show me how to do KT, never successfully killed the little bugger (Of course, bringing ONE ranged DPS to the raid was not the smartest idea). =P

  23. spiritbeastftw on March 25th, 2009 3:54 pm

brk make more of these types of movies there great even if you talk or dont talk they teach us how a real “pro” hunter tops dps charts

  24. Weezoh on March 25th, 2009 5:39 pm

@gemski those are I believe power auras indicators of various things – I know he talked about using the little squares for various things when he talked about that add-on in another movie.

  25. low lvl hunter on March 25th, 2009 6:31 pm

I think this fight is a little to easy, iwas a lvl 55 hunter, made a DK, got him to 80 in no time, I was in quest greens as dps and same with MT but he had some blues , no one in therapd had a single epic , we found him far to easy. Make a good video for a hard boss , try one for heigan? Or maybe
Try loatheb, allthough I supose ur dps will be rubbish if an SV hunter get the + 50% crit, that will be embarrasing :P

  26. Mike on March 25th, 2009 7:10 pm

I love when ya do videos like this, as an avid UI tinkerer I love hearing your UI explained. Something I would really like to see is how you have all of your different power auras set up. I have a few but I am curious to hear what you found to be good things to set up for PA. Thanks again BRK love your blog

  27. Imrathand on March 25th, 2009 7:19 pm

    @ low lvl hunter

lol a hard fight in naxx? did blizz add a new boss recently :P you should do 10 man malygos BRK!

  28. Anj and KittenHeels on March 25th, 2009 9:56 pm

Great video again (mmm quality), although there’s something extra I do, wonder if you could tell me if it’s worthwhile or a complete waste of time.

When the Guard adds die (or indeed, I believe, anyone), after a while a whole bunch of insects come swarming out of them. So what I’m doing is popping an explosive trap down on the corpses so that when they spawn, the theory is that a bunch of them will be instantly wiped out by the AoE effect of the trap.

What do you think? Am I wasting my time?

  29. Dreyja on March 25th, 2009 10:42 pm

I am terribly jealous of your clean UI set up! I have yet to set up power auras and several of the others I have… I’ve forgotten how to reposition them. ;) Can I just import your entire set up? ;) I’m seriously thinking of giving up my N52 for one of those G11s.

If you ever want to do an entire epi on all of your add-ons, in a little more detailed basis than you have so far. ;-p

  30. Ang on March 25th, 2009 10:53 pm

Love the videos BRK. I remember the good old days in 40-man Naxx when I first switched to BM to try out a trick we’d heard about having a BM Hunter’s pet tank Anub in place, using Improved Mend Pet to neutralise the effects of the Locust Swarm. My scorpid pet Pinchy became infamous in our guild after our 1st successful Anub kill back then happened using this method. And our MT still gets teased about it. :p

  31. Numeanor on March 26th, 2009 3:51 am

I see BRK, u got some new power auras. Would u mind to share text for kill shot? :)

  32. Marco on March 26th, 2009 7:51 am

Great video BRK! Keep them coming :)

  33. WB on March 26th, 2009 9:11 am

I expect we will be seeing a series of BRK HunterGuide Raiding movies. Anub’rehkan is the first boss in the easiest wing of Naxx, so it’s a natural starting point for the next 10+ videos I expect we will see…

  34. Josh on March 27th, 2009 11:52 am

I haven’t seen a Lightwell in game since the stairs in ZF 8.)

  35. Anonymous on March 27th, 2009 5:25 pm

Great movie I hope you make more. Our guild fights Anub’rehkan in a different way: bloodlust immediately and kill boss before first locust swarm. If you are geared out it’s definitely the way to go but if it’s your guilds first few times in Naxx then killing the adds and ducking out of Locust Swarm is the way to go.

  36. Random on March 28th, 2009 6:10 am

Great movie, im wondering though what are the addons called that are his actionbars and his portraits? And any other that weren’t mentioned in the video?

  37. Harv on March 30th, 2009 1:15 pm

BRK – I’m a big fan. Thanks for all you do. I’d love to see all your Power Auras as well as your set up for SCT, if you can find the time to do that. Thanks again
