I think it’s worth taking a screenshot of BRK.net upon the final post, showing the achievement Epic being the most recent, and perhaps last, gained.

Because BRK.net has been nothing if not Epic.

Be sure to tip the servers and be nice to the janitor on your way out.

BRK was lots of fun. Thanks for the ride :) Make sure there’s a nice time gap if you start the PhD. It’s an even bigger time sink. I’ve been amazed over the last two years that we hit so many milestones at the same time. Even this one. All the best for the future. Will undoubtedly see you around.

I just openend this last topic, when the following song came up on the radio: Michael Bublé – Lost. What a good way to say a final goodbye to my favo hunter.

    Farewell BRK and Hya Daniel!

  28. Bo on April 9th, 2009 4:23 am

BRK, just using this opportunity to say thatnk you for your blog. It pretty much brought me back into WoW when Wrath hit and although I am not a hunter you’re writing has always brought a smile to my face. I even started blogging about my experiences as a direct effect of reading things here.

  29. Frank on April 9th, 2009 4:36 am

I’ve been reading your blog for a while now, and though I never posted a comment I always appreciated your insight and your stories. I do hope you keep this blog up for the younger hunters to browse, and I wish you the best of luck,.

Just make sure you let Hobbes out once in a while to eat someone in PVP.

    Thank you BRK!

Thank you for all you have done here on BRK. I have been a daily reader here for nearly 2 years and I have learned so much from you. Your insight and dedication to what you do have always kept me coming back for more. Your blog has transformed me from “That pet pulling noob” to one of my guilds main assets in BC. It would be a true tragedy to see such a guiding light in the WOW blogger community dim completely.. Good luck in life and with the new blog Mr. Howell. PLEASE, keep the military stories coming !!! : )

I really, honestly hope that you never get married or have children or buy a house or attain a management position at your job, because if you honestly valued anything important in life over this video game, you would understand why BRK did what he did.

I’m currently letting my WoW sub run out, as well.. Almost like a mass exodus away from the game. I still read all the usual WoW-blogs, though, and since you’ve announced your decision, BRK, to focus on the important things, I’ve still come back here every. single. day. to make sure you weren’t just messing with us. =(

I totally get why you did what you did, and I’ll be bookmarking Brain Needs Space in bigredkitty.net’s place. Thanks for everything. Really. Honestly. Thank you. For everything.

Well I guess this is it. It’s been a joy to read your posts and while it saddens me to see this last post on BRK.net I cannot help but feel a bit of comfort when I read your new blog. As you said before, we play for the people, and sure people may have come here for just tips on playing Hunter but I know a lot of us also came here for the personality and humor that you put into your posts. So thanks Daniel, I’ll gladly be reading your new blog whenever you make a post.

I just a little too late to get into the video, so I guess it’s fitting I’m one of the last here after the lights have been turned off. BRK, Daniel, you were an excellent teacher of Huntercraft. I got countless complements during the BC, just applying the basics of trapping and aggro control you taught, and your appearance on my wee-little blog so long ago brightened my day. I hate leaving or losing my favorite teachers.

But as many have noted, I also understand why, my own habits indirectly hurt someone I care about, so I had been throttling back for the past month.

You’re a great man, husband, and father for making this change so decisively as soon as you realized it had to be done.

You will be missed, but it is beyond an excellent reason and I wish you and your family all the happiness in the world.

I’m sure someone pointed this out before, but just in case, how utterly and inexorably fitting that your last achievement was Epic. There are few to whom the word applies more, first for the way you played WoW and shared it with others, and now, and infinitely more importantly, for how and why you left it.

Man I go out of town for two weeks and look what you go and do!

    Ruining my internets!! D:

BRK, you were one of the hunter community’s biggest proponents
these past few years, and it is a sad, sad day to see you go.

Back in the day we used to send our newbie hunters to watch your
videos to learn how to kite properly. I used to scrutinize your builds,
or reference new players to your blog to help them figure out what
kind of hunter they wanted to be.

Even a diehard survivalist like me knows how great an impact you
made on our little player community.

So this troll hunter wishes you the best in your future journeys,
    wherever they may lead you.

    Taz’dingo!!

  79. DC on April 12th, 2009 2:17 am

“I really, honestly hope that you never get married or have children or buy a house or attain a management position at your job, because if you honestly valued anything important in life over this video game, you would understand why BRK did what he did.”

If he’s really doing this to spend more time with his family, great. However, I’ve been a critic of his in the past and it’s worth noting that the guy just seems to be milking the “retirement” and starting a new blog. How many posts now have we seen with, “I’m quitting. No, seriously, I am. Just a couple more posts where I talk about me, projects revolving about me, contests in my honor, and Q&A’s about me. Oh Blizzard, please make a Hunter item named after me! No? But Phaedra got her own item! Why not me?”

Meantime, we see mass praise for a guy who admits he neglected his wife and kid in favor of a video game, for a very long time. He clearly enjoys his WalMart version of celebrity in one tiny little corner of the Internet, and he can’t stop talking about himself. Hell, his entire blog was one big celebration of himself, and the new one looks like the same thing.

So I highly doubt we’ve seen the last of him, and it wouldn’t surprise me in the least to see a new post in a couple of weeks, maybe sooner, once the crave for attention returns.

Go ahead and delete my post, BRK, I’m well aware you do not allow criticism of yourself on your blog.

Actually, I’m the one who doesn’t allow criticism on the blog. BRK only deletes comments if they’re inflammatory towards other commenters. He doesn’t delete anything negative about himself. I do. Enjoy your little moment as the only one of tens of thousands who has realized the “truth” about BRK. –TJ

WoW is not a big part of my life, but I simply loved listening to your podcast. You are an irreverent and funny host. Now that’s gone because you refused to moderate your game time and I am down one joy.

You have earned it. your latest achievemeny is indeed Epic BRK.

  87. Gunder on April 13th, 2009 4:56 am

Bigredkitty, I’ve watched your videos for a while now. the first on I saw was Gorriliadin. Yeah that got me pumped to play a hunter. Then as time went on I did indeed play a hunter and found that everything you did was obvious to me. The hunter class came pretty natural to me and after reading bits and pieces of you other blog, I realized. I’m not a fan of Bidredkitty, so much as I am a fan of the man behind the Dwarf, next to the kitty. Every time I look at my Spirit Beast, or the Final Voyage I just got maybe an hour ago, I’ll think of you, and instead of being filled with sadness I’ll be filled with…well nothing probably. Which is the way it should be. Farewell Bigredkitty, and even thought the lights are out…your always welcome to come back.

    BRK nailed it…

    WoW is like crack

Actually if you play 10-20 hours a week. or more… how much time are you not doing other things that can benefit you and your family.

Yep, I play wow. Yep, I am going to quit also.

Be well, Mighty Hunter, and thanks for it all.

  93. Dalaila on April 14th, 2009 5:46 am

Well well welll… I’m married with a cute child (2 years old) and still LOVE… LOVE Wow. I just do not spend all my free time on it. I’m more a casual than a harcrore player and I still enjoy the game, maybe much more than those who spend a life theorycrafting and forgetting about real-life stuff.

We all know that BRK will *hardly* forget Wow forever. He’ll do what he can to enjoy his son and his wife but he was too addicted, really too much (the game, the blog, the podcasts, the columns on other websites, the toys, the t-shirts, …).

Patch 3.1 is hitting the live servers today. I can feel the pain in BRK’s head. I can really feel how much he would love to be with us…

  94. Morgatho on April 14th, 2009 7:38 am

Me and my BigRedKitty spirit beast will miss you, you may be a member of the alliance, but you are as great as the mighty Grom Hellscream him self.

Aka’Magosh BRK, may the Lok’vadnod be sung in your honor you my friend.

  95. Dalaila on April 14th, 2009 9:37 am

Side note: closing BigRedKitty.net and “redirecting” people on another blog (still owned/updated by BRK) makes everything look like “ok I’ll try to keep closer to my family but not without blogging as soon as I can…).

Can’t you just focus on WoW from time to time and have fun with it, without having to update blogs, columns, sell t-shirts, sell toys, making theorycrafting and more? You would save a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT of time for both WoW (a game you love) and your family.

The solution to problem/s is not hiding away: face it and moderate yourself, still having pleasure with Wow. No need to force yourself throwing away a passion. Just cut the excesses and keep playing (when you can).

I think WoW offers a ***LOT*** of fun when played just occasionally. It makes small updates/patches awesome and fun. It kills the “boring” factor. It makes daily quests fun. In 3.1 we’ll get new stuff that you could easily explore and play from time to time… no need to “dedicate” to the game like you did before.

I was looking thru PVP screens the other day, and smiled when I found one of me standing next to you while I was healing AV.

    Definitely gonna keep that screen.

Good luck, I’ll miss ya BRK.

    We need you Danny Boy!

  103. Freejack on April 15th, 2009 4:54 am

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer’s gone, and all the flowers are dying
‘Tis you, ’tis you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer’s in the meadow
Or when the valley’s hushed and white with snow
‘Tis I’ll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.

And if you come, when all the flowers are dying
And I am dead, as dead I well may be
You’ll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an “Ave” there for me.

And I shall hear, tho’ soft you tread above me
And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be
If you’ll not fail to tell me that you love me
I’ll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

I’ll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

Best of luck with your family. I think it’s more than fitting that the last achievement earned during your playtime was “Epic”… just like all things BRK.
