Sunday Ramblings

We have no idea why, but we love farming Clefthoofs. Nagrand is easily our favorite zone, both Azeroth and Outlands, and those big, lumbering bulls make us happy.

The Dead Scar mobs cannot be kited. We can do the work, but they’re tied to their little scar-zone. Phooey. This evading-cr@ppola is pissing us off.

We’ve sharded all our pre-Kara gear, but our historical collection of stuff is still overwhelming. And it’s all soulbound. We really don’t want to blow 400 gold each on three 20-slot bags and just gain 6 slots. A non “Tier-4 Sharding Spree” solution eludes us.

Tonight is our first look at Black Temple. We expect no loot and no bosses down. We do expect lots of Ooohs and Ahhhs, though, so that’s cool.

We have 60 Badges of Justice and nothing on which to spend them, unless we consider getting that crossbow. We don’t want the crossbow, but can we turn our nose up at it once we hit 150 BoJs? Do we have a Gun Issue?

We know we have a Gun Issue. Should we worry?

Our next BRK Hunter-Guide Movie is going to be Void Reaver. We’ve got the material, just need to put it together. Solarian is easy, Al’ar will be quite difficult, but then all we’ll have left is Vashj, as we’ve not even seen Kael. It never occurred to us what to do when we ran out of bosses. Any ideas?

Our new 24″iMac with the 8800GT is crazy-fun. We so glad we waited to get exactly what we wanted.

How much gold does it take to make one quit doing dailies? We’re up to 10,200 and still try to knock out 12-15, four days per week. Why are we doing it? How much is enough?

For the first time ever, we saw the Hourglass of the Unraveler drop! Of course we lost the roll for it; enhancement shaman got it. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, our trinket-karma stinks.

What’s the most you’d spend on Spectral Tiger card? We’ve seen them on eBay, we’re drooling. We’re not gonna blow a car payment on one, though. This may turn into a poll.

2000 Hits and a Great Idea

The hits just keep on coming, and we’ve blown through the 2000 mark. I’ve been watching how this site is being found, and I must say I’m totally pleased at how many hunter-information-hunters on google are finding their way here. Only one search for porn showed up among the list of searches that resulted in BRK being visited, and that was from Finland. I’d post the word that he was looking for, but I don’t want to insult my Finish readers. BRK is sensitive like that.

But more impressively, someone found this blog while searching for information on how to kite Fel Reavers. This is Big Thinking, and deserves a big “BRK Woot!” for even considering kiting one. I wish I had thought of it. Could you shoot, Feign Death, get on your epic flying mount, and kite it to Shattrath? I love to burn that city to the ground, and a Fel Reaver would do the trick.

Ooo! Would it follow you through the Dark Portal? Could you get it to Goldshire? You could sell screenshots of that. Heck, I want a teeshirt made, “I pwnd Goldshire with a Fel Reaver”.

Someone get on that.

My Basic Hunter’s Guide - Part V

The First Shot

The first shot is the one that doesn’t happen. When the warrior engages the mob, you must wait. He’s up there Taunting and Sundering to grab aggro. With all your crit-making agility, when you smack down a 2500, the warrior has no chance to hold aggro. Patience, Chester, keep that muzzle clean.

Your first real shot should be a Delay-Over-Time, such as Serpent Sting. There are ten people in your raid; you don’t have to go all Rambo on each and every mob. Steady and sustained DPS is your goal in most situations. Go ahead and Arcane Shot when it’s ready. Watch for your DOT sting to decay and reapply when required. Multi-Shot when there’s only one mob left, just don’t be surprised if you also kill a roach, snake, or some other critter roaming around the instance.

Kiting

You’ve heard of it, but maybe you aren’t exactly sure what it means. Simply put, you’re playing tag with a mob who wants to kill you. Have you ever seen Stitches stomping around Goldshire? Wonder how he got there? Some hunter probably kited it there as a joke. Kiting involves keeping the mob at enough distance from you so it won’t hit you, but damaging it enough so that you hold aggro and it will continue to chase you.

So how do you Kite? You see a mob, you shoot it and run away. The mob will follow you and if it can’t catch you, will eventually give up and go back home. But what if before it gives up, you stop, turn, shoot it again, and continue running away from it? That’s right, Chester, the mob will continue to follow you. Repeat this sequence often enough and, theoretically, it would follow you from Booty Bay to Light’s Hope Chapel.

The best kiters can perform a Jump Shot where the hunter is running, jumps, spins 180 degrees in the air, lets off an Arcane Shot, rotates back 180 degrees, lands, and continues running. Perfect this skill and you can solo just about any mob, elite or not, that cannot heal itself. You may have Tier 3 gear, Chester, but until you can Jump Shot and Kite, you stink.

Where the Hell is the Conclusion?

I certainly hope you enjoyed this guide. More importantly, I hope you learned something. Should you happen to have a comment or an idea that would provide value, please send me a pst. And if you disagree with anything herein, go ahead and write your own guide. You’re lazy, Chester, I know you won’t do it.
