Is your AmmoFu broken? Ours was; the new patch wreaked havoc with it. We made our new Netherscale Ammo Pouch and we couldn’t track our ammo quantity. Stupid addon crashed. It’s such a silly thing, but it just didn’t work at all. Maddening, it was.

Solution? Get GratuityLib pronto. AmmoFu throws a Lua error message begging for the Gratuity library, so we found it, installed it, and Blamo! AmmoFu is working again!

One of the problems with the WoW Mac client is that when we set the preference to record at 15FPS, it sets the entire game to 15FPS. This makes for a nice-sized file but lousy play. All the movies we’ve done so far have been, basically, run at 15FPS.

Moroes, Maiden, Maulgar, etc. all recorded while our play was at 15FPS. Yuck, we’ve hated it.

So we’ve cranked it up to 30FPS for this movie. Our playing frame rate was, of course, set to 30FPS and it was easily playable. However, our five minute recording was 353MB. Not good for our hard drive storage capacity. We see potential problems down the road with this setup.

The movie is very nice, especially the 42MB, 960×600 full-sized version, but the files are just too big. We think. Maybe. /sigh

This movie is just a test-run of frame rate settings and excuse to abuse the cobras some more.Edit:Same movie, exported as 425×355.

Edit: Here’s our first experiment in compression/frame settings:Since the fps was lowered from 24 to 15 and the mono channel lowered from 48kHz to 24kHz, we decreased the size of this movie file to 8.7MB. If you see a massive difference between the two movies that justifies the 30MB file, let us know.

We did the channel-thing, bumping it to 128. We heard a lot more of the environment and maybe 25-50% more shots, but the shot-sound/shot-graphics were still not totally synced. Better, but not as good as it was.

In case you didn’t notice, we put up a new poll. If you think of a fun poll you’d like to see, slap your idea in the comments. You know the BRK-drill: hunter-esque themes, PG-13 language, coffee and other small distractions as we see fit.

Because we cannot read and type at the same time, we screwed up our previous recommendation for Marksman hunters to try the dual-wield approach. Nope, go Legacy if at all possible, regardless of spec. Marksman may slap a Savagery enchant for 190 RAP if they so choose.

Legacy: we can’t tell you what it says without screwing while typing, but it’s a nice polearm.

Farming is not about DPS, is it. If you like Spirit Bond for farming, go right ahead. If you like Hawk Eye for farming, do it. If you like running a 20/21/20 spec for farming, who are we to argue. Farm away, my friend, and Spirit Bond to your heart’s content.

But if anybody asks if Spirit Bond is good for leveling Fishing, we’re gonna /shriek.

In a more detailed and less-curse-laden format, here’s the skinny from their referenced Blue-Post:

The default for the active channel count was changed to 32 recently during work on 2.2.0. You may be able to raise it again, however on some systems you my start getting crackle if you push it too high.

You can change that in config.wtf:

set Sound_NumChannels “howmany”

or by console:

/console Sound_NumChannels “howmany”

[The default] actually used to be 128 on the Mac build, but we found some extremely high sound density areas that were causing some stutter/crackling issues, so we toned it down a bit. As we improve and tune up the new sound engine we may change that default back to a higher value in a future rev. In the meantime play around with it and find what works best for your system.

So tonight we’re taking our Mac’s sound capabilities to the limit and going back to 128. Of course, we’ll report our results.

And we’re adding a Label called Troubleshooting for just this type of situation.
